Placements

We have been a placement site for the following applied clinical programmes: National University of Singapore (NUS), James Cook University (JCU Clinical Psychology Trainees), Monash University, College of Allied Educators (CAE), The School of Positive Psychology (TSPP Counselling Trainees) and LASALLE College of the Arts (Art Therapist Trainees).

We take trainees over 2 time periods, typically from January to end June and July to end December. The main focus for The Nest is to form a mixed cohort of clinical psychology, counselling and art therapy trainees (usually around 5 people) to encourage learning across life stages and disciplines. We endeavour to keep the group dynamic and aim to create a diverse cohort at each time.

If you would like to discuss having a placement with us, please fill in this form

Supervision

For all supervisees, we provide an in-house individual supervisor who will be an employee of TOC (The Other Clinic). We do this for consistency across our practice and to ensure that all supervisors are registered as approved supervisors with the relevant professional societies in Singapore (e.g., Singapore Psychological Society and/or Singapore Association for Counselling). The supervisor will be paid by the course or by the individual depending on the clinical course structure. The individual rate for supervision is $160SGD per hour of supervision.

In addition to individual supervision sessions, we have a 1 hour group supervision which runs every Wednesday 2pm at The Nest. For all supervisees, this is compulsory to attend and is provided free of charge. During group supervision, we aim to practice application of therapy skills through the use of demonstration and role play. We also take turns to present cases and topics for case discussion. We strongly encourage face to face attendance for these sessions. We can accommodate occasional online attendance but require the majority of the attendance to be face to face to ensure effectiveness of the group.

In addition to these supervisions, trainees are welcome to join peer supervision groups at TOC for their own learning, where you can hear and contribute to case discussions.

Who are we looking for?

To be on placement at The Nest, a minimum commitment of 2 days per week is required. We prefer for you to complete your placement at one site. If you have other commitments or have another placement site, please let us know so we can see how to support the process.

We are supportive of people engaging in their own therapy as this helps with self-awareness and gaining insight from the position of the client. Please do not pick a therapist at TOC should you consider being in therapy. If you are already in therapy with someone at TOC, please let us know at application point.

Apart from providing individual therapy work at The Nest, we are dedicated to building collaborative partnerships with our community partners. Some of our community partners include Resilience Collective, Aidha (education for migrant workers) and Brain Tumour Society (Singapore). We are constantly seeking out new partnerships to continue to provide mental health support, training or workshops to contribute to our community.

Through the placement, we will need trainees to provide individual therapy, contribute to community initiatives, write a few simple articles for our social media feeds and have an attitude of openness and willingness to learn.
